Avoiding timidity at toddle babies
Do not worry that your baby is timid if he/she lies on your shoulder when a stranger approaches or he/she hesitates to join group activities. It is just a common phenomenon at toddle babies.
In reality, most of children at this age (from 1 to 2) experience this timidity. Many of them feel free to communicate with their fellows but shy with strangers. Whereas the others are in contrast (feel free with the adult but shy with their friends). And some feel worried over new situations. However, most of toddle babies can get rid of timidity gradually.
This timidity once was blamed for the surroundings completely. However, the experts now believe a baby's behavior is partly affected by hereditary. The important thing in this stage is to distinguish the inborn timidity from an indispensable one in the baby's growth. In both these cases, you will not worry about it.
How to help babies get rid of shyness?
- Joining them for games: If your baby goes shy with strangers, you should not bring him/her to the park with the hope that he/ she can make acquainted with them as you are outside. For instead, do join him/her into games until he/she is at ease. When the baby is merrily joining an activity, you should step backward.
- Offering the baby sympathy: You should let the baby know that how deeply you sympathize with him/her. And you may say: "You feel uneasy with the noisy friends, don't you?"
- Making the baby encouragement: whenever he/she like to make friends or attend an activity you should praise him/her. Just keep in mind that toddle babies feel free to play from the outside. He/she can observe then imitate the others rather than playing directly with their friends.
- Joining the small groups: Do arrange the small groups or create sociable environment. If your baby is interested in playing outdoors, do take him/her there at the moment of quietness.
- You should never call him/her a shy girl/boy. Labeling the baby will never gain benefits even the label of "genius" as this may cause high pressure to him/her. In fact, the baby does not believe he shy. However if you frequently speak it out, the baby may believe that it is true and this does reduce the baby's bravery.
