How much is it enough to eat?
A new research has figured out that size of the rations plays a key role to determine how much they have eaten.
"No matter how big the bananas are, you will eat up a banana without distinction of whether it is big or small", said Andrew Geier at Pennsylvania University . "Whether there is anything in your plates, it seems that it has imprinted in your minds: That is a meal".
Geier and other scientists call it "the trend of choosing according to the units". The trend is believed that a unit of food such as a bottle, a can, a full of plate is a reasonable amount to eat.
They show that the great rations at the restaurants or fast food stores are a reason which causes the situation of obesity in the recent decades. The group has tested a wide range of experiments to discover how people deal with their rations.
For example, they put a full bowl of M&M in the room with a plate: "Do eat your ration by using the available spoon." The full bowl of candies is put within 10 days with a big spoon and with a small spoon in different days.
The result shows that everybody takes M&M more and more in the days when there are big spoons. The average amount is two third more than the amount in the days when there are small spoons.
The researchers conclude that "Trend of choosing according to units" is not the unique thing that can make difference in content of consuming. But apparently, it can influence how people eat.
