Behaviour when resigning
Knowing that you will resign, many people who are not satisfied with the company will gather to inquire and show their dissatisfaction with you. You had better not take part in such that talk if you want to leave with good impression.
Good diplomacy is not only the key of success in personal relationship and works but also special importance even when you are going to leave your present work.
Earth is more circular than we can image. Maybe in the future you will need relationships with your chiefs or old colleagues. So, although you will resign, you should not give bad impression with them and frustrate those relationships. These are something that you should or should not make in last days:
Show your profession and politeness when you inform intention that you will be leave your company, first to your direct chief, then to your colleagues and employees in other departments.
Not inform lately, had better before 2-4 weeks so that your chief has time to arrange, look for someone to replace your position. Arrange time with your old company and new one to hand work advantageously to both.
Write professional resignation. You do not explain too wordy, you just write briefly, sincerely to show that you leave your present job to look for, pursue opportunities and different desires.
Work until last minute, do not leave works unfinished. Should make a list of projects that must be finished before you resign. Be always active, contribute for general works, try your best to keep good impression with chiefs and colleagues.
Should not leave your desk littering. Spend one day to arrange tools, documents for successor. Should leave small tools you bought by yourself such as paper-clips, pens. as your gift.
Spend time directly instructing or phone for work of successor if you can. Should not send email to brag and spin a long yarn with your old colleagues. Just inform briefly and give information to contact when it is necessary.
Spend time to talk wisely with your chiefs and colleagues. If you have never exchange your thought and worry about your colleagues before, this is the suitable time to share sincerely.
Should not controvert, deride or find chance to show all your anger at a long time to your chiefs and colleagues although someone maybe tell something that make you grievous.
